Motorcycle suit and jacket airbag technology has been around for a few years, and its massive safety potential is no secret. But putting that tech in a suit or jacket limits its usefulness to only that one piece of protective clothing. The new Dainese Smart Jacket takes that same lifesaving technology and puts it into a vest that the company claims is "for everyone, and for every type of use."

It’s hard to say without seeing and testing the unit ourselves, but Dainese claims the Smart Jacket will fit over or under any jacket on either men or women (in the appropriate size, of course). The outer shell is breathable but also water resistant, and easily folds down for storage when not in use.

Twenty-six hours of battery life ensure the Smart Jacket is charged and ready to go on long-distance rides, or last for weeks for shorter-distance commuters. If the airbag is activated, riders can go to their nearest authorized dealer to have the internal shield replaced quickly and easily.

Developed over 25 years, the “brain” of the Smart Jacket is made up of seven sensors that monitor and process data 1,000 times a second to make sure you’re protected when you need to be.

Compared to Dainese D-air jackets that were priced around $1,700 when they first came out, the $700 for the Smart Jacket is much more affordable, versatile, and easier to wear. The Smart Jacket will be in stores July 2019, check dainese.com for more information.
