Yamaha's Faster Sons were back on the Atlantic coast this month to take in the sunshine, waves and all things custom for the annual Wheels & Waves event in Biarritz from the 8th to 12th June.

The fifth edition of the event drew thousands of custom bike fans from across Europe and beyond. This year they came to enjoy not just the static display of Yamaha's Yard Built creations, but also to witness true Faster Sons action just across the border in Spain at the Hippodrome Lasarte-Oria, near San Sebastian with the pure thrills of flat track racing at the El Rollo event.

Californian custom builder Roland Sands, Bike Shed UK editor Ross Sharp, Bread and Salam's Roberto Ungaro and of course Sideburn's Gary Inman were just some of the fearless riders stepping up alongside Go Takamine, the founder of legendary Japanese custom house BratStyle, on the specially prepared Yamaha SR400s to hang it all out on the dirt for the special Faster Sons RIOT race. Years of racing experience paid off for Roland Sands, taking the inaugural RIOT win over Roberto Ungaro with Gary Inman wrapping up the podium in third.

The main event drew the big guns and none bigger than long-time friend of Yamaha, Marco Belli. The Italian flat track champion proved yet again that he can take all comers on the oval, storming to victory in the modern bike class of the event with the XSR700.

The Faster Sons flavour continued the next day with the Artride exhibition at Casa Ciriza in Pasaia San Pedro. Some of the Yard Built project's coolest creations shared floor space with equally entertaining art, a true creative blend. A special guest with Faster Sons was local artist Perdinande Sancho, effortlessly blending old-school drawing skills and creativity with modern technology, creating custom motorcycle portraits on an iPad in front of the gathered guests.

For the remainder of the event those who made the journey to the event were able to hang out at the Faster Sons tent and check out some of the stunning rides, including Danish builders the Wrenchmonkees' latest creation, the XSR900 MonkeeBeast, sitting alongside the latest XV950 Yard Built, 'Speed Iron' from the super cool Italian workshop Moto di Ferro. Turkish builders Bunker Motorcycles were there with their go-anywhere scrambler interpretation of the XSR700, and, the star of the show, the breathtaking supercharged SR400 machine from Belgium's Krugger Motorcycles.

"This is our third year at Wheels & Waves as part of the Southsiders Mc family," commented Yamaha Motor Europe Marketing Coordinator Cristian Barelli. "It's really inspiring to see the event grow bigger and bigger every year as more and more people come to share in the sunshine and good times. Faster Sons is a true part of this motorcycle culture so it's natural to see us not just on display here, but in the dirt in the heart of the action, showing the true spirit of riding, to have fun!"
