Battle of the Kings: Uproar

Maidstone Harley-Davidson's bobbed out Sportster Forty-Eight

When you consider the massive number of bikes being submitted to the H-D Battle of the Kings, second place is hardly something to sneeze at. Hell, the first time you come in as runner up, it could be a serious encouragement and motivation to just try that much harder in the next one. But coming in second twice in a row? The team at Maidstone Harley-Davidson is back for the third installment of the Battle of the Kings, and they're going for the win.

With the addition of the Sportster Roadster to this year's lineup, most builders tended to go with more of a cafe racer/ flat track vibe- something we do love, but we like diversity as well. Maidstone decided to go a more blacked out, bobbed out direction with their aggressive Sportster Forty-Eight build.

A custom tank with knee dents was lifted, but not so extremely as to expose the wiring harness and frame underneath. The front fender was cut down to the little sliver you see mounted there. The rear fender struts were chopped to fit the new bobbed rear fender, and an H-D solo seat was fitted.

When you build a bike for a custom contest that is going to be voted on by viewers all over the world, it's just going to be based off of your pictures. The small details that you spend tedious hours milling over are likely to be overlooked by 90% of the people that are there to vote on your bike. Meaning the fact that they lifted the tank, the grips, the Motogadget bar-end blinkers, the custom foot controls, and many other details that are in there but not screaming "look how custom I am!" might not get noticed by Joe Shmoe Custom Kings voter.

The one thing that nobody will overlook is that crazy exhaust. Cut and welded by RB Kustoms in West Sussex, the bright burst of stainless stands out in an otherwise dark motorcycle. When the lines are so clean that a custom looks like it could be factory, something that's radical and obviously hand fabricated like this is the perfect punch of style.
