2016 Moto Guzzi Eldorado

Italian cruiser with 70s style

When I was in high school and all of my buddies and I started racing mopeds around the block, my best friend's big brother pulled up on a 1974 Guzzi Eldorado and showed us what "cool" looked like. When I saw the 2016 Eldorado, I got the same feeling I had when I was sixteen. Style and grace. Class. But it ain't no wimp. This was and is, a comfortable and efficient machine that brings you all of necessary amenities without sacrificing style or heritage.

The first things I notice when sitting on a bike are the ergonomics. The bars on the Eldorado are wide and low and the seat is large and comfortable. You're put in a very relaxed, upright position with your hands close in and your feet set solid on the floorboards. The controls look simple from the handlebars and feel natural when switching between engine modes and traction control settings.

With three engine modes: Veloce (sport), Turismo (touring), and Pioggia (rain), it's easy to change the engine mapping for your ideal ride. I spent most of my time riding solo in Veloce and found the 1380cc, 96hp engine to be quick and very responsive. I did have the opportunity to try out Pioggia mode in the rain and found that the slowed throttle response really helped with traction on the wet road. The steering was fluid and easy, but I did find the wide bars a little sensitive in the twisties. The bike seems to have a better turning angle than most bikes in the category with floorboards, but I was most comfortable on the highways and in long sweeping turns, rather than short tight ones.

This is the bike for someone who is looking for a performance cruiser that stands out from the crowd. The Eldorado is a gorgeous throwback built on a modern platform that will leave you wondering what other awesome bikes the Moto Guzzi lineup has to offer. It is a fun, responsive, comfortable bike that easily eats up highway miles and brings the rider back to the glory days of motorcycling.
