Women and motorcycles—from either side of the gender pool—it’s a winning combination. That’s what Kelly Yazdi, founder of Wild Gypsy Tour, has been working on for the past three years—bringing more opportunities to women on motorcycles, and more ways for them to experience motorcycle culture.

In its current form, the Wild Gypsy Tour remains a female-only festival at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip, located in South Dakota and taking place from August 3–7 during the 79th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

“From the beginning, we have wanted to create a very special place just for women—a no-pressure, cohesive, laid-back environment where we can come together, ride, and experience an exciting and memorable five days at the largest bike rally in the nation,” says Kelly Yazdi. “We have taken great care to curate the perfect line-up of events and activities so that women feel welcome and excited to experience this special time of year at Sturgis.”

Attendees will enjoy live entertainment, group rides through the beautiful South Dakota backcountry, adventures to iconic Black Hills landmarks, interactive mindfulness experiences, parties at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip, flat-track, and drag races. Of course, there’ll be time to score that must-get tattoo, with specially set-aside times with an acclaimed tattoo artist just for Wild Gypsy Tour guests.

This event comes at a time when there are more women motorcyclists than ever before. The Motorcycle Industry Council’s annual survey indicated that, in 2018, 19-percent of motorcycles are owned by women; that’s nearly double the percentage it was nine years earlier . This means that nearly one in five motorcycle owners is now female, compared to one in ten less than a decade ago.

“The goal of our festival at Sturgis is simple: get women out riding and celebrating motorcycling—together.”
