The word 'ninja' immediately brings sport bikes into any gearhead's conversation, and for good reason. The Kawasaki Ninja platform began in 1984, and now is a constant podium dweller in World Superbike, thanks to Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes. The Ninja 650 is sleek, powerful and tameable by sportbike riders everywhere.

The Kawasaki Ninja 650 puts the rider in an upright position for everyday enjoyment, but don't be fooled by its somewhat pedestrian appearance: underneath that fairing beats the heart of a lion, with a water-cooled 649cc four-stroke, two-cylinder DOHC engine with dual 36mm Keihin throttle bodies. The high-tensile steel trellis frame holds its line stubbornly, with a 6-speed chain drive. This new chassis weighs 42 lb. less than the previous model, improving handling in the curves and canyons.

Additional features include a 31.1-in seat height, 4.0-gallon tank, 419-lb curb weight (non-ABS), 17-in wheels, a 41mm hydraulic telescopic fork with 4.9-in. of travel and a horizontal back-link rear suspension with adjustable spring preload and 5.1-in. of travel. The under-engine exhaust and gull-wing swingarm adds a racing aesthetic.

The Kawasaki Ninja 650 is priced at $7,399 ($7,799 with ABS). Color choices include Metallic Spark Black, Pearl Blizzard White, or Candy Burnt Orange.
