Star Motorcycles Rolls Out 2011 Models

The all-new 2011 Stryker makes its debut

Sept.1, 2010 - Not to be forgotten in the new model release wars is Star Motorcycles, who today released its lineup for 2011. The bulk of the 2011 bikes are carryovers from 2010, but the big buzz for Star this year is the new Stryker, a 1300 cc V twin cruiser that combines raw chopper-ish looks with modern performance bits.

**The New Stryker **(not the hair band from the 90s)

Unlike, say, Honda's Fury (to which comparisons will inevitably be made), the Stryker's muscular styling isn't old-school chopper - its aggressive stance is more custom than laid-back. But much like the Fury's rejiggered VTX1300 mill, the Stryker is powered by a middleweight v-twin engine that's been around the Star stable for awhile now - its 1304cc, fuel-injected, liquid-cooled mill is standard fare in the V Star 1300. The 60-degree, single overhead cam V-twin retains high-tech features, like four valves per cylinder (36mm intake, 32mm exhaust) and roller rocker arms to reduce friction for better performance. Dual counterbalancers are included to smooth out the ride, while a low seat height (26.4 inches) allows riders to put both feet on the ground.

The wide 210-series rear tire and chopper-inspired 21-inch front wheel reinforce the muscular vibe of the bike, which Star calls "chopper styling for 21st century". Star also says that radically raked out front end doesn't inhibit the Stryker's nimble handling, though we'll let you know for sure next month, after the riding introduction Star has planned.

Other modern details in the engine bay include computer-controlled twin-barrel fuel injection; ceramic-composite cylinder sleeves containing 100mm forged pistons for durability; a 9.5:1 compression ratio and aggressive cam timing; forged connecting rods with a single crankpin for V-twin sound and power; a five-speed transmission along with a low-maintenance belt drive.

The Stryker will be available in dealers by end of September, in two trim packages: high-quality chrome, or an aggressive-looking, blacked-out design. MSRP starts at $10,990 for the Raven color, going up to $11,240 for the Impact Blue or Reddish Copper hues.

**Who's Back? **

Returning models for Star include the Royal Star Venture S, Stratoliner Deluxe, and Raider and Raider S. The Silverado S is back with new colors, with the base model Road Star holding down the foundation. The V Star 1300 is also back, but for 2011 it's improved with a new handlebar and a lower, scooped saddle, for a more relaxed riding position. It also sports more bright work and a new black frame. Its sibling, the 1300 Tourer, also makes a return, along with the reliable V Star 950/950 Tourer, V Star 650 Custom and V Star 250. And let's not forget Mr. Max - who once again takes the power cruiser slot in the lineup
