2025 Buell Super Cruiser Almost Ready for Prime Time

MSRP and production dates revealed for the 175 hp supercruiser.

Buell has announced pricing and a tentative production date for its 2025 Super Cruiser. This is the RSD concept bike.Buell

When we last left things with Buell’s 2025 Super Cruiser, we had just gotten out of the saddle of a preproduction, not-yet-validated version of the 175 hp monster machine in Daytona, Florida, last March. At the time, we were told that things like price and production schedules were still being finalized, but CEO Bill Melvin was adamant that the bike’s price target would be somewhere in the mid-$20Ks. There have been dribs and drabs of info about the testing and validation process on the Super Cruiser, but nothing really concrete until just last week, when Buell announced that orders for the long-awaited model would officially open on September 12, 2024. As for Melvin’s statement from six months ago, that has turned out to be absolutely spot-on: Preorder customers will be able to snag a special introductory price of $23,900 for the bike, but after November 12, the order books then open up to the general public at the higher base MSRP of $25,900. The revised target date for the start of production is now the fall of 2025, and the company is aiming for a first year run of 2,000 to 5,000 units.

For those uninitiated in the hype surrounding the Super Cruiser, here’s a quick refresher: The bike was designed and co-developed with Roland Sands, who at the time said Melvin and the Buell crew asked him to “use…as much of the standard Buell rolling kit” as possible. The result is a version of Buell’s 175 hp, 1,190cc liquid-cooled V-twin (an evolution of the Rotax Helicon mill) mashed into Sands’ one-off steel tube frame, which also carries the 1190 platform’s swingarm, fork, and 17-inch alloy wheels with signature perimeter braking system.

As for inspiration, Sands was crystal clear when the concept bike was revealed: “I was deeply inspired by Harley’s FXR. Erik Buell was involved with…getting the FXR to be…one of the best-handling Harley-Davidsons that’s ever been built. We wanted to take advantage of that heritage and connection with Buell.” The Super Cruiser’s influences are clear, though the bike’s West Coast cruiser aesthetic is amped up even more, with blacked-out components, tall bars, and quarter fairing forming what Sands refers to as “a superbike-powered high-performance club-style bike.”

According to CEO Bill Melvin, the production version of the bike will come standard with the 175 hp engine map with a 50-state exhaust, though there may be changes to the suspension, exhaust, and other components.Andrea Wilson

In the wake of the new pricing announcement, Melvin was keen to reach out to prospective buyers, saying: “We are grateful for our preorder customers. They’ve given us feedback, and we are listening. We also want to give them the first opportunity to order and at a special price.” The CEO of Buell Motorcycle Co. also added, “And in the next couple weeks, we will be announcing some amazing progress in our goal to create American jobs and move some major supply chain items back to America.”

Those preorder customers will receive an email with more information as well as a link where they can place their order deposit starting on September 12. That targeted email will be sent out over the course of two weeks, in sequential order, to those customers who have placed a preorder deposit. After November 12, 2024, orders for the Buell Super Cruiser will then open to the general public at the higher price.

Buell says the bikes will be built in Michigan, and come standard with the 175 hp map with a 50-state exhaust; the only color option for now is black. There are also plans to have showrooms and service centers in major metropolitan areas. More details, specs, and preorder info can be found on buellmotorcycle.com.
