As we pulled into Queretaro Harley-Davidson, three hours outside of Mexico City, I was blown away by not only the quality of custom motorcycles, but the diversity. Beautiful full-dressers sat next to heavily modified, raced-out XR1200s. Cafe racer Sportsters parked next to classy custom trikes, and among them all, this wicked little Sportster Forty-Eight. A low-slung brawler of a Sportster, built for jamming around the city streets. Not overdone, but classy and mean.

Less is more … which is far more challenging than just dumping a bunch of accessories on a bike. Like snake’s venom …. powerful in a small dose!!!

- Oscar Peralta

Going after a clean and aggressive look, we asked Oscar Peralta, owner of Aftercycles, why they chose the Forty-Eight as a base model for this build. "The essence of Aftercycles is to create unique bikes never sacrificing riding performance and reliability. We used a 2016 H-D Forty Eight, Harley did a good job with the base model, it has a 1200 cc engine ABS brakes and improved suspension. The original wheels and rotors have a nice design that you can work with."

The 16" wheels lend themselves to an old school bobber look, and the added white-walls just accentuate that even more. The short exhaust with custom headers give the bike a low, mean, throaty sound, while giving a little bump from stock performance. The bobbed rear fender was made in house, as was the high quality paint job.

"I like to be diverse with the builds we offer, at AFTERCYCLES we are not married to a specific style or design. In this case we wanted to create a functional everyday bobber that could call for attention as a well balanced concept. It can be taken to a show on the weekend and be ridden to work every day. You can enjoy a specific section of the bike without any loud pieces stealing your attention. Less is more … which is far more challenging than just dumping a bunch of accessories on a bike. Like snake’s venom …. powerful in a small dose!!!"

This bike was sold before it was even built, and as it sat on the showroom floor for only one week, three similar builds were commissioned. Stay tuned for a high-powered Dyna, a cafe racer Sportster, and a bobber of a Softail coming soon from these guys! In our time in Mexico, Oscar and his family became like our own. They were incredibly gracious hosts that opened up their shop, homes and bikes to us. If you are even in Mexico and get the chance to go check out Aftercycles or Queretaro Harley-Davidson, you owe it to yourself to do so. Tell Pinche Augustin we said hello.
