Is this desert scrambler from Iwan-Bikes all looks?

Victory's Operation Octane has brought us some of the best looking Victory customs we have ever seen. From the old school tracker vibe of #76 to the track-ready full-performance build of Ms. Sharker from Taiwan, we have been impressed by the way these dealers and builders have transformed their Octanes. Well the contest is over and the votes are in, and the International winner is this here Desert Racer from Iwan-Bike in Germany.

The bike is called the Desert Racer, and to be honest, it looks like a "desert racing" themed build, not a bike that's ready to race in the desert. Low bars, knobby tires, and a metal rock-protector for the oil-cooler help to bring this bike a little closer to the desert sled vibe, but don't quite cut it for me. The rear fender with soft bag mounts and a top rack seem functional, but for any type of desert scrambling, you would probably want to raise up the rear section to get a little more travel/ clearance. The custom leather seat, while being durable, locks the rider into one position, which is not ideal for riding off-road as you have to be all over the bike, constantly changing position.

What this bike does do well, is maintain the original Octane lines, while totally changing up the vibe of the bike. The stance is still very Octane. If you were to look at the silhouette, you would still be able to name the bike, but it has a lot of hand done touches to it to make it unique. The paint is a real military color, and was all hand done in house. It's a great looking bike, just not one that we would choose to race through the desert.

Just as I was about to complain about the Desert Racer having forward controls, I remembered Tony Carbajal's video from last week, where he rode his almost stock Octane through the desert doing insane jumps and wheelies, and ripping ridiculous speeds through heavy wind and sand. Perhaps we misjudged this cruiser… Maybe it does do its name justice after all.
