A Bigger CTX Joins The Series

For 2014, Honda Releases New CTX1300

Over the course of the last two years, Honda has rolled out its share of unique new models for the cruiser (okay, touring) segment, and it seems they're not done yet.

As we went to press with last issue's big 2014 Buyer's Guide, we had to speculate that Big Red would continue to offer certain models like the CTX 700. Now we get word that the CTX 700 is not only being carried over, but it's being joined by the next player in the series, the all-new CTX1300.

2014 Honda CTX1300

The bigger-displacement V-4 CTX1300 carries the same emphasis on comfort and easy-to-operate features as the 700s released earlier this year, but adds even more features and performance.

Honda says the new 1300 expands the concept introduced with the first CTXes—the idea of combining higher levels of comfort and technology, emphasizing ease of use and a spacious rider environment with relaxed ergonomics. And now Honda's looking to offer it in a V-4 platform, accompanied by a distinctive V-4 engine pulse and exhaust sound. The liquid-cooled 1261cc longitudinally mounted V-4 engine is tuned specifically for off-the-line punch and a linear power delivery. With its brief fairing, short windscreen and integrated saddlebags, the newest CTX looks pretty well-equipped for longer hauls, and the low seat height of 29.1 inches makes it accessible to most. Honda says the CTX13 brings moderate weight (724 pounds, wet), a low center of gravity (thanks to an underseat fuel tank), nimble handling, and relaxed riding position along with a long, low and unique look to make it stand out in a crowd.

The up-spec Deluxe model adds an audio package that includes Bluetooth® connectivity (a Honda first), as well as an Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control, self-cancelling turn signals plus blacked-out styling elements. The CTX1300 will be available in Metallic Black, Gray Blue Metallic and Candy Red in March of 2014, with price yet to be determined.

2014 Honda Gold Wing ABS To no one's surprise, Honda is also bringing back the storied Gold Wing for 2014. For nearly four decades, the Gold Wing has always been on the short list of ultimate motorcycles for mile-munching travel. That doesn't change for 2014, which brings back the Wing's powerful and smooth six-cylinder engine and sporty handling, as well as luxurious accommodations for both rider and passenger and latest generation of sophisticated electronic amenities. All-new colors include: Candy Red, Pearl Blue, Black with bold blacked-out treatment; Price: $23,990 - $29,550; Availability: January 2014

2014 Honda Gold Wing F6B

Also returning for 2014 is the more custom-styled F6B. The 'Big Red bagger' still rocks that same powerful fuel-injected 1832cc six-cylinder engine with an aluminum twin-spar frame and sophisticated suspension system for remarkably sporty handling. Large-capacity lockable saddlebags, a comfortable gunfighter-style seat and a premium audio system make the miles more comfortable. The F6B will still be available in standard or Deluxe trim, which includes a centerstand, self-cancelling turn signals, passenger backrest and heated grips (other Honda accessories are also available). The F6B can be had in Black, and new for 2014, a Pearl Yellow color for an MSRP of $19,999 - $21,099. Availability: January 2014
