AGV Demon Top Vent Motorcycle Helmet Review

AGV's Demon is an affordable motorcycle helmet with top-end features. From the August 2001 issue of _ MOtorcycle Cruiser _ magazine. **By Evans Brasfield. **

For years the pricy motorcycle helmets have gotten all the cool features, and inexpensive lids were, well, inexpensive lids. What did you expect? In 2001, AGV, long known for the quality of its expensive top-of-the-line helmets, has stepped up the feature list in its not-so-expensive line.

The Demon Top Vent utilizes a light composite fiber shell for maximum impact resistance without added weight. Four adjustable vents in the front of the shell keep the helmet cool and fog-free. Stale air is drawn out via the V-shaped venturi air extractor at the top of the helmet and the rear air extractor at the nape of the neck. Inside the helmet, the liner wicks sweat away from the rider, keeping him comfortable. Even the back of the chin bar is lined with this material instead of a non-absorbent plastic.

The fit of the comfort liner belies the Demon's low price, however, and the helmet was cozy enough that I chose it over several high-end lids to take to Daytona Bike Week. My only quibble with the AGV Demon is it is a bit noisier than other higher-priced helmets. When compared to units in its zip code, however, the Demon bests most of them.

With a suggested retail price of $175 for solid colors and $190 for multi-colored combinations, the Demon is a steal. The DOT- and Snell-approved helmets are available in XXS to XXL sizes. The Demon Top Vent can be purchased from any Parts Unlimited dealer.
