In case you were wondering, Royal Enfield is still very bullish on its versatile 650 twin platform in general—and the Shotgun 650 model in particular. So much so that the brand has partnered with Portland, Oregon’s Icon Motosports to crank out a very, very limited version of said bike, dubbed, unimaginatively, the Limited Edition Shotgun 650. But keep your jaw in check; other than a punchy new paint job and premium component add-ons (new graphics, seat, and wheels), this Shotgun is pretty much just a tarted-up standard issue bike, using the same frame and P-twin mill—and even the bodywork—though with similar aesthetics as Icon’s slick “Always Something” build, which really did drop some jaws at EICMA 2024 and Motoverse 2024.
In fact, Enfield’s production, limited edition of the Shotgun 650 looks nothing like the nutty track-shredder Icon built; like most Icon customs, the “Always Something” bike is a full-on fire-breather with heavily modified geometry, overbuilt suspension, and a free-flowing intake and exhaust, complete with an RD400 tank on top. Modified Yamaha FZ750 Airtech plastics and a Buell S2 tailsection fill out the shapely silhouette. Add in a custom S&S exhaust, ZX-10 nitrogen fork paired with dual custom Nitron shocks, and a tweaked Kawi 650 Ninja swingarm riding on vintage Astralite wheels and you have a head-turning cafe racer on steroids.
Going back to the Limited Edition Shotgun 650, we find the same well-traveled 648cc parallel-twin mill firmly ensconced in a steel open cradle Harris frame, retaining the previous torque and power claims of 46 bhp at 7,250 rpm and 39 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,650 rpm. It’s the same 43mm Showa Big Piston fork upfront and dual Showa shocks out back, though here the shock springs are painted blue. As on the standard bike, the Limited’s 650cc engine wears a black finish for a premium look, but also serves as suitable canvas for those “exclusive add-ons” to make their mark, with the three-tone red, white, and blue colors of race-inspired graphics, unique gold contrast-cut wheel rims, and red seat with integrated logo providing a good dose of contrast. The Limited also gets bar-end mirrors and will come with a specially designed, exclusive jacket from Icon.
To recap, none of the internals or externals of the air/oil-cooled SOHC twin housed in the Royal Enfield x Icon Limited Edition Shotgun 650 have been messed with, and power still flows through a six-speed gearbox, with two-pot ByBre floating calipers working the 18/17 wheelset on either end. Judging from the photos, the LED lighting on both ends of the bike carries over intact, as does the digital/analog instrument cluster paired with the 4-inch TFT Tripper navigation pod.
Enfield, however, is touting the Limited model as “a collector’s edition,” with only 25 units available for purchase in all of the Americas. Adrian Sellers, head of Custom & Motorsport department for Royal Enfield, added, “The ‘Always Something’ by Icon was a masterpiece, and we are thrilled to bring this production version channeling its passion and style to our community of riders worldwide.”
