Technically Alpinestars Is Now Casual - Gear

As editors of this magazine, we've frequently had to ride the line between functional and good-looking riding gear. On one hand pure sport and pure touring apparel works great, but frequently looks a little too racer boy or ubertourer techno geek. On the other hand the old-school jeans, chaps and leather jacket combo leaves much to be desired when it comes to keeping cool or impact protection. Things have been changing recently, and one of the companies that is perhaps most guilty of racer boy technical clothing is turning over a new leaf.

With input from their casual wear division, Alpinestars is introducing a new line of motorcycle gear that doesn't immediately scream "motorcycle gear!" The Quantum Nano-System Bomber is a hip hop-styled hoodie that's water-resistant, armored, breathable, and yet retains a cotton based, loose fit that's super-comfy. There's a Grease Monkey mechanic-style jacket with similar features, as well as a line of technical backpacks with impact protection built in. There will also be technical riding jeans, and a Gore Tex low-rise waterproof boot, called the Scout.

line of low-key waterproof gear, called the City Collection similarly designed to not scream motorcycle, and be comfortable. The Verona and Messenger are mid and long black waterproof jackets with clean lines and little ornamentation. Our fave from this collection is the Soho Gore Tex boot which is a 60s-styled boot, but with full armor, waterproofing and breathability.

Though all this stuff is aimed at a more casual crowd it works for the more conservative/cool styles cruiser riders tend to favor. Like our bikes its nice to see a company put as much effort into looks as function.
