Riding at Daytona Bike Week

Riding routes near Daytona Beach, Florida

We started our online Daytona Bike Week survival posts earlier with where to eat. Now we move on to riding; the whole reason most of us got into this whole motorcycling thing in the first place. While Daytona's main focus is the Daytona 200, marking the start of racing season, there are some fun, scenic routes to cruise in the area. Here are five that we've come to enjoy over the years.

Florida isn't exactly world renowned for its twisty mountain roads. Still, if you look hard enough you'll find some nice twisty stretches. This one in Volusia County also runs through magnificent live oaks from Daytona Beach to Edgewater. Click here for a map.

If you're looking for the most popular route in Daytona Beach, that would be The Loop. It takes you under some really beautiful canopies and also acts as a second route to Destination Daytona. See map.

Daytona proper gets pretty hectic during Bike Week and if you need a break for some kick-back coastal cruising. The route from Daytona Beach to New Smyrna Beach is your huckleberry. The ride gives views of the Intercoastal waterway, travels two-lane country roads, and has biker-friendly hangouts in the bargain. Get the map here.

How often do you get to enjoy breakfast over the ocean? That's right, I said OVER the ocean, not just over looking the ocean, at Crabby Joe's in South Daytona.  This favorite ride is perfect when you're looking for a unique breakfast destination and a day oceanside.  The ride route ends at the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse. Here's a map.

This ride will take you through some of the scenic roads on in West Volusia including a visit to DeLeon Springs State Park to the historic downtown mainstreet in DeLand. The first weekend of Bike Week each year, DeLand hosts a Bike Rally with music, shopping, great food and a welcoming atmosphere. Here's a map of the ride.
