I'm not pulling any punches on this one. I love this bike. The upswept pipes, that perfect line between the gas tank and the seat-- but I'm getting ahead of myself. Harley-Davidson Bologna has been close to victory in the Custom Kings contest before, back in 2015 with their Street 750 based project (you guessed it, 'Project #001') which then took Second Place. Well the new bike, though the names are similar, is a new beast entirely. Based off of the Sportster Roadster, 'Project #002,' is describes as an on/off road daily rider. Does the second take have what it takes to win this year's competition?

Designed to look almost like a production bike, Project #002 has muted colors with little pops of H-D orange. There are lots of subtle details on this bike but the main thing you notice is just good clean lines. The short fender and short rise on the bars look simple and neat.

The line of the two stainless upswept pipes reminds me of something between Evel’s XR750 and old chopper pipes. Finishing off in shorty Akrapovic mufflers, I only wish i could hear what they sound like.

Stock wheels have been equipped with beefy knobby tires suited more for the dirt scrambling than the daily riding, but hey-- they look great. A small skid plate was fabbed up under the chassis to help deter any unwanted debris that front tire is kicking up.

I love that the bike is still fully capable two-up as well. The custom seat is done in true 70’s scrambler fashion of being long and flat enough to where you can move around when scrambling, but also fit a passenger for more mellow riding. Many of these customs, particularly the dirty ones tend to lose the ability to ride with a passenger pretty quickly.

Project #002 is one of the standout builds for me in this competition, but the voting is now closed! To see the finalists, head over to Harley-Davidson's site here! And be sure to check out the other bikes we have featured on Cruiser here!
