Not your typical V-twin-power cruiser, the layout of the Moto Guzzi engine puts the cylinders into the wind flow, adapts to shaft drive without the power loss of extra gear sets and provides good cornering clearance with its narrow cross-section.

Our test unit was equipped with a Corbin seat, which improves the ergonomics tremendously.

Despite the floorboards, the California has more cornering clearance than most foot-peg-equipped cruisers. The arrangement of the foot controls is awkward, however, and you must lift your feet off the boards to shift gears or use the brake pedal.

There are two sizes of Moto Guzzi saddlebags available for the California and this is the smaller version, which still swallowed a week's clothing, camera gear and on-the-road supplies, keeping them safe from weather and sticky fingers.

As with the rest of the bike, the instruments favor function over style, with big faces, large warning lights and the ignition lock right up where you can reach it. Each Anniversary model is numbered (ours was 749 of 750) on the handlebar clamp plate.
