Other modern cruisers once had four speeds, perhaps as a subtle boast about their engine torque (they were all larger bikes). All of them switched to a five-speed gearbox. Unfortunately, the VLX is not particularly torquey and would greatly benefit from a fifth speed. We were surprised when Honda did not include it in the 1999 upgrade. View Related Article
