Bill Janklow Goes to Jail
On Saturday, February 7, former South Dakota Governor and Congressman Bill Janklow spent the first of 100 nights and 30 days behind bars, his sentence in the manslaughter death or motorcyclist Randy Scott last August. He is expected to use some of his time preparing to defend the civil suit brought by Scott's family. Presumably, he won't be allowed to use the $1 million he has left in his campaign account to pay any settlement.

MSF Takes Over California Motorcyclist Safety Program
California's motorcycle training courses are now being administered by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, and there is a new number to call: (877) RIDE-411. The new program administration is also looking for folks who want to be rider coaches.

Oregon Helps Motorcyclists Be Seen
A new Oregon law allows motorcycles to run up to three headlights or spotlights and to use pulsing brake lights. The reason, of course, is that lights are a great way to prevent the I-didn't-see-him blues.

Motorcycle Cops Killed by Stop Sign Runners
Motor cops in both California and Florida were killed by drivers who didn't see them -- and probably didn't look. Of course, the Florida driver said it wasn't her fault, even though she didn't have a license. The California driver was killed.
