The Motorcyclist Hall of Fame Museum has announced that its "Women & Motorcycling" exhibit will appear at the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame during the 2003 Sturgis Rally.
The exhibit, which focuses on the contributions and involvement of women during the 115-year history of American motorcycling, was originally created for a display in 2000 at the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum, which is located adjacent to the headquarters of the American Motorcyclist Association in Pickerington, Ohio. The exhibit was so well received that other locations wanted to show it, and the traveling version was created. It has been shown at more than a dozen sites since then.
The exhibit will be ready in time for the Sturgis Rally, held August 4 to 10 and will remain at the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame for an additional 12 months. The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame, which opened in 2001, is located at Junction and Main in downtown Sturgis, South Dakota.

The exhibit centers around colorful illustrated panels, packed with information about the role of women in American motorcycling. The panels include timelines depicting milestones from the past century, quotes from notable women past and present, and the names of more than 1,500 women who are currently active in various aspects of motorcycling.
The goal of the Women & Motorcycling exhibit is to show visitors that many women have contributed to the evolution and growth of motorcycling, from the sport's earliest days. The traveling version of the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum's Women & Motorcycling exhibit has been installed in 15 cities since 2000.
"After the Women & Motorcycling exhibit's great success here at the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum, we were asked to show it at other locations around the U.S.," said Mark Mederski, Executive Director of the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum. "So we adapted it to travel, and we're pleased to loan it to the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame for the next twelve months."
The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame exhibits motorcycles and historic information about motorcycling, with special emphasis on the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, and recognizes those who have dedicated much of their lives toward the sport of motorcycling. It opened its doors on June 1, 2001, moving its present location at the corner of Main and Junction, the old U.S. Post Office building, in June of 2002. It rotates exhibits often, featuring national and international marques.
The goal of the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum, located on the campus of the American Motorcyclist Association in Pickerington, Ohio, is to tell the stories and preserve the history of motorcycling. The Motorcycle Hall of Fame honors those who have contributed notably to the sport, and three major exhibition halls showcase the machines and memorabilia that have shaped motorcycling. The Museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily; noon to 4.p.m. on Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day; and closed on New Year's, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
