The Sturgis Buffalo Chip has just announced that the award winning Student Build Challenge™motorcycle has won two more awards during the 25th Annual Black Hills Motorcycle Show in Rapid City, SD. The Sturgis Brown High School Students who worked to customize the stock Harley-Davidson Road King took home first place in the Full Custom Bagger category and Best Paint Overall at the Black Hills Motorcycle Show. The already recognizable motorcycle previously won first place for the Full Custom Bagger Open Class classification and Overall Best Display at the 26th annual Donnie Smith Show.
The Student Build Challenge Legends Ride bike was built by a group of dedicated high school students with parts donated by some gracious powersports companies, and guided by Keith Terry of Terry Components, Randy and Nick Cramer of Dakota V-Twin, and Instructors Chad Hedderman and Bill Johnson. In a complete tear-down and rebuild, the Sturgis, SD students customized the Road King and in the process, have now taken top honors at two of the industry's top motorcycle competitions.
The students and staff from Sturgis Brown High School began transforming the Harley- Davidson bike from a Road King to a Road Glide in January. Together, with help from many sponsors, the students and staff worked tirelessly after school and on weekends to complete the bike, putting in well over 377 combined man hours on the motorcycle.
