Harley Rolls Out New CVO, Softail and Sportster Models | First Look

Most manufacturers release one or two mid-year models in the cycle, but for 2011, Harley has opted to unleash three new machines for the already-in-progress model year.

The CVO You Already Know

First to be announced was the newest member of the Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) family: the FLHTCUSE6 CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide. The limited-production, top-line tourer combines custom paint, a potent powertrain, and an array of premium accessories. New details include an exclusive Twilight Blue and Candy Cobalt paint scheme, color-matched inner fairing, and rear fender filler strips—which are the only things distinguishing it from the normal’ 2011 CVO Ultra Classic released earlier in the year. Otherwise, you get the same Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110 powertrain, dual-control heated seat, and Road Tech Zumo 660 GPS unit, among other goodies.

Making its debut at the New York IMS show in January was Harley’s new Softail, the Blackline. It’s the MoCo’s latest dip into the Dark Custom pool, which has served them well in the under-30 demographic. The Softail-based model basically slathers on darkness for an understated stealthiness that’s more cool than menacing. Bobbers are in, ya know, so the Blackline gets pared to the bone, with details like a tightly bobbed rear fender, and slim, 144 mm rear tire that complements the hardtail look. A super-low two-up seat emphasizes the reach to the new Split Drag handlebar and the asymmetric 5-gallon tank puts a sleek finish on the package.

With its 66.4 inch wheelbase, glossy black aura and wide FX front end, the Blackline is priced at $15,499 and is available now. See the specs and our ride impressions in the shootout on page 32.
