The only cruiser among BMW's top sellers in the U.S. was the new-for-2003 R 1200 CLC.
BMW's 2003 motorcycle sales topped 15,000 units inthe United States for the first time ever. BMW Motorrad USA, the U.S. BMW distributor, reports that it sold 15,299 motorcycles last year. That's an increase of 13 percent over 2002, and also marks the firm's seventh consecutive year of sales growth in the United States.
Only one of the company's five top-selling motorcycles, the new-for-2003 R 1200 CLC cruising tourer, was from its cruiser series. The other top sellers included one four-cylinder K model, the K 1200 GT, and three R1150 twins -- the GS Adventure, the new R Rockster, and the RT sport-tourer.
And you -- the guy in Chicago who was about to buy a BMW on New Years Eve but decided just before the dealer closed to wait to sign the papers until the following week -- BMW is looking for you because you kept them from breaking the 15,300 mark.
