Who Is, Who Ain't
This year's list of motorcycles missing in action is much smaller than recent years, and not nearly as painful. BMW, who will disappear completely from the cruiser market after this year, has pared its line to three models (or four if you count the CL and CLC as separate bikes), so there is no Phoenix. Moto Guzzi, which has survived the recent financial upheavals of its parent, Aprilia, has trimmed the metal-flavored versions of its 1100 (the Aluminum and Titanium) from the line for 2005, though dealers still have some. Kawasaki has discontinued the 125 Eliminator, the carbureted 1500 Classic (replaced by a newer fuel-injected version as its budget big twin), and replaced the 1500 Nomad with a much-changed 1600. All Suzuki's familiar models have been given Boulevard names, some with significant upgrades, some virtually the same. Ural's Retro only comes with a sidecar now, so we aren't including it. There is at least one surprise reprise, Honda's Rune, which is making one more appearance in even smaller numbers to fulfill the remaining demand. Fortunately, there are plenty of new and revived models this year to keep this guide bulging. Harley, Honda, Kawasaki, Victory and Yamaha all have major new cruisers.
